Matt Barnett

Engineer, Avid Golfer, & Travel Photography enthusiast

I am a Systems Engineer based in Orange County, California currently working on inflight entertainment and passenger connectivity for commercial aircraft. I have a degree in computer engineering and software engineering experience working on autoland, autopilot and fly-by-wire systems for planes such as the Airbus A220 and Boeing 777X.  I also have experience as the lead systems engineer for a team developing routers and an inflight entertainment solution for business jets.

I have been involved with Science Olympiad, the nation's largest K-12 STEM competition, for close to 20 years.  As a competitor in middle and high school, I was fortunate to win medals at regional, invitational, state and national tournaments.  I supervise events at state competitions and have been an event supervisor at the Science Olympiad national tournaments since 2016. I am currently the Associate State Director for Wisconsin Science Olympiad.

Outside of work and when Science Olympiad isn't keeping me busy, I enjoy playing golf, hiking and taking landscape photos.  I enjoy taking hundreds (usually thousands) of photos in day while on an 8+ hour hike, but absolutely dread editing photos.  Case in point, I have yet to go through tens of thousands of photos I took while on a trip covering Utah's five national parks back in 2015.

I am fortunate to have traveled to more than 25 countries so far, many of which I visited while studying abroad in the Czech Republic.  In the fall of 2019 I traveled to Australia making it the fifth continent I've been to, leaving South America and Antarctica on my bucket list.
